Lucy

Lucy McBride is the co-founder and writer of Rusted Revolution. Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Lucy developed an eye for the arts at a young age and made the transition from the suburbs to the city, where she attended Marymount School of New York in Manhattan.  After completing high school in 2007, Lucy enrolled at Boston College to pursue a French major and an International Studies Minor with a concentration in Global Cultural Studies.  With a passion for travel and foreign languages, Lucy was able to perfect her linguistic and literary skills in French while achieving an advanced comprehension of Italian.  Her various courses in the International Studies Department at Boston College enabled Lucy to develop a strong understanding of the cultural, literary, economic, and political undertones of the global community in places such as Rome, where she lived and studied for her spring semester of 2009.  Between her travels through Eastern and Western Europe, Lucy studied Art History, Italian Language, Ancient History, Opera, and Photography at the American University of Rome.  In her early college years, Lucy worked as a U.S. Beauty Marketing Intern for Avon Products, Inc. within their Wellness division; in this role, she acted as an active contributor to the formulation, design and promotion of Avon Wellness products, in addition to serving as a company correspondent.  Beginning her foray into the fashion industry through retail, Lucy began working as a sales associate for Free People in 2008, alternating between the company’s Boston and Long Island locations over the course of her college career.

As a member of the Free People community, Lucy played an integral role in regional and district sales, brand promotion, marketing, and visual merchandising and display.  Lucy’s work in merchandising and customer service sparked an interest in styling, which she further explored through promotional and editorial work with Rusted Revolution during her senior year at Boston College.  In early 2012,  Lucy relocated from New York to Los Angeles, CA to pursue an assistant styling position with LA-based e-tailer Planet Blue.  Since then, she has thoroughly enjoyed working behind-the-scenes while assisting the PB team on editorial and product photoshoots; in her time here, she has also explored freelance styling and assistant projects in production and casting.

Lucy is adamant about viewing the concept of style as an art form which (simultaneously) indulges and protects a person’s individuality, freedom of expression, and ability to make a difference by inspiring others. In her free time, Lucy loves to stay active through yoga, hiking, swimming, biking and beaching it.  Her guilty pleasures include Salvation Army excursions, weekend getaways, brunching, reality television shows, red velvet cake, and updating her ridiculous large and cumbersome perfume collection.

“Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”
